BI-WEEKLY UPDATE
OUR SHORT COURSE CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS ARE ON TONIGHT !

Our short course (ie 25 meter format) Annual Club Championships are on tonight with registrations closing at 6.30 pm and the first race scheduled to start at 6.40. It is a big night of racing, particularly for the older swimmers, so it is important that all racers warm up properly. It is strongly recommended that swimmers get to the pool at around 6.00pm so they can get registered early and warmed up and so be fully prepared and relaxed well in time for their first race. The barbeque will again be available from 6.45pm with free wine and beer for all adults. The race program is on the clubs web site.

After tonight we only have one more race night left for the swimming year and that is on Friday 16th of September. The long course season starts in October and the first of the currently scheduled external race carnivals is also on in October. Note that representing our club at these external meets is organised by our head coach, Steve Garner, who will assess each swimmers fitness, skills and level of training before including anyone in the club race team. Importantly, the school swimming season starts next term so remind all the others at school that joining our swim club is a great way to have fun, make new friends, and to start getting properly prepared for the school swim team.

CONGRATULATIONS TO SAMANTHA MARSHALL - SWIMMER OF THE MONTH FOR AUGUST !

During August Samantha broke 3 club records (in the 100m freestyle by over 6 seconds !) and set 4 PB's in the two club race meets in August. Congratulations on these excellent performances ! Samantha wins a $30 voucher for some of the clubs smart new gear.

Race Meeting on 19th August - 27 PB's achieved and another 5 Club records broken!

Another excellent night of racing and barbqueing was held on the 19th, and all the swimmers had great fun in the wave pool after the racing. The racing team continues to improve dramatically, with 27 PB's achieved and 5 club records broken.

Samantha Marshall continued her recent excellent form with new club records in the 50m breastroke, the 100 meters freestyle (by over 6 seconds !) and the 100 meter IM. Luke Aldous set a new mark in the 50 meter (modified) IM as did Claudia Manzo. Well done all three ! Of note is that in Luke's record breaking swim, an impressive 5 other swimmers set PB's trying to catch him.

Congratulations to the following swimmers who set personal bests: Sarah Gardiner (3), Caitlin Miller, Sammy Annear (2), James Ekins (2), Caroline Oyada, Tom Mahony (2), Aiden Brown (2), Jim Lundie, Samantha Marshall (3), Emma Radford Claudia Manzo (3), Claire Raper, Hugh Raper, Lachlan Raper and Oliver Schaffer (3).

Swimmer of the Meet for boys was Oliver Schaffer with Samantha Marshall and Claudia Manzo sharing it for the girls. Remember that this award is determined by how many points each swimmer earns during the meet, and they all count for the clubs “Swimmer of the Year” award. For the Club Championships the points are doubled and thus tonight for a PB - 8 points are awarded, 6 points for being very close to a PB, 4 points for being within 1 second of a PB and if no points are earned through the times, 2 points are awarded for every event entered (up to a maximum of 3 events). We have a computerised race results system which gives us the results straight after the meet concludes. The results are published on our website and can be viewed at Results.

Club BBQ

The barbeque will again be operating tomorrow night from 6.45pm, with the complimentary champagne, beer and wine again available to all parents and support crew. Remember that brothers and sisters of the swimmers have free entry so they can enjoy all the facilities of the center, and have a delicious dinner, while the Race Squad battle out the short course Club Championships!

Swimmer of the Year

With only two race meets to go, the battle for Swimmer of the Year is getting very close indeed. Tonight's Club Championships counts for double points and the race meet on Friday September 16 is the last for the 2004 /2005 season. It is important to note that as the older swimmers will be competing in more events tonight than the younger ones, that only the top 3 performances tonight by each swimmer will be utilised for points generation for the Swimmer of the Year award.

For both the girls and the boys the progressive points score for the top 12 swimmers is :

Samantha Marshall – 98 points; Claudia Manzo - 94 points (note that this is higher than previously advised as her (excellent) results on the June 10 meet had not been recorded as eligible, when in fact they were), Claire Raper – 85 points; Hannah Birchall – 68 points; Caitlin Miller - 65 points; Emma Radford – 61 points; Doris Kong – 60 points; Eleanor Raper - 56 points; Caroline Oyada – 52 points Phoebe Birchall - 51 points; Phoebe Davies – 46 points; Maya Gasiorek - 42 points. Outside the top 12 but making rapid progress are Georgia Lundie and Sarah Gardiner .

Tom Mahony – 99 points; Sammy Annear – 92 points; Oliver Schaeffer – 91 points (having made up huge ground in the last 2 months); Lachlan Raper – 81 points; Hugh Raper – 75 points; Aidan Brown – 72 points; Ivor Metcalf – 71 points; Matthew Miller – 70 points; William Vineburg - 46* points; Santiago Gonzalez - 46* points; Jim Lundie – 40 points; James Vineberg – 38 points.
