BI-WEEKLY UPDATE
OUR SWIMMERS BLITZ THE CLUB'S SHORT COURSE CHAMPIONSHIPS !

On the 2nd of September the club held its annual Short Course Club Championship and an outstanding night of racing it was. A total of 10 club records were broken and 53 PB’s were set. For a small club this was an amazing result.

Oliver Schaffer
“2005 SC Club Champion”
Samantha Marshall
“2005 SC Club Champion”

Congratulations to Oliver Schaffer who is the new boys SC Club Champion and to Samantha Marshall who took out the girls title. Each broke 4 club records, with Ollie making a PB in all 6 events he competed in, which has to be some kind of record in itself. Samantha swam 5 PB’s from 6 events which was also a fantastic effort.

There is only one more race night left for the swimming year and that is tomorrow. The long course season starts in October and the first of the currently scheduled external race carnivals is also on in October. Details of these carnivals will be distributed shortly. Note that representing our club at these external meets is organised by our head coach, Steve Garner, who will assess each swimmers fitness, skills level and attitude at training before including anyone in the club race team. Importantly, the school swimming season starts next term so remind all the others at school that joining our swim club is a great way to have fun, get fit, make new friends, and to start getting properly prepared for the school swim team.

CONGRATULATIONS TO SAMANTHA MARSHALL - SWIMMER OF THE MONTH FOR AUGUST !

During August Samantha broke 3 club records (in the 100m freestyle by over 6 seconds !) and set 4 PB's in the two club race meets in August. Congratulations on these excellent performances ! Samantha wins a $30 voucher for some of the clubs smart new gear.

Race Meeting on 16th September!

Our final short course (ie 25 meter format) race meet is on tomorrow evening with registrations closing at 6.30 pm and the first race scheduled to start at 6.40. It is a big night of racing as it will determine the club’s “Swimmer of the Year” competition. It is strongly recommended that swimmers get to the pool at around 6.00pm so they can get registered early and warmed up and so be fully prepared and relaxed well in time for their first race. The barbeque will again be available from 6.45pm with free wine and beer for all adults. The race program is on the clubs web site.

2005 SC CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS!

With 10 club records broken, and 53 PB’s set, it was an excellent and highly rewarding night of competition. Apart from Oliver Schaffer and Samantha Marshall who set 4 new club records each, also setting records were Emma Radford and Patrick Carr. In addition, Emma set PB’s in all 6 races she swam in, while Eleanor set PB’s in all 5 races she entered. These are truly great performances.

The use of the electronic touch pads was a great success while the new signs and the excellent club barbeque added to the “gala” atmosphere.

Special thanks to John Konrads, former Olympic gold medallist, and patron of the club, who presented all the medals.

Congratulations to the following swimmers who set personal bests: Oliver Schaffer (6), Emma Radford (6), Eleanor Raper (5), Samantha Marshall (5), Phoebe Davies (3), Tom Mahony (3), Claudia Manzo (3, one of them by over 5 seconds), Ivor Metcalf (2), Patrick Carr (2), James Vineburg (2 – in the 25m backstroke by over 6 seconds !), Doris Kong (2), Rosie Carr (2), Caitlin Miller (2), Sammy Annear, Aiden Brown, Claire Raper, Hugh Raper, Maya Gasiorek, Didi Gasiorek, Georgia Lundie, Miriam Carr, Lachlan Raper and William Vineburg.

Special mention needs to be made of racers such as Sarah Gardiner. She is only 8 years old, and stepped up to a number of 50 meter events for the first time. Thus while she did not set any PB’s at the meet, she has progressed enormously and should be congratulated on her efforts.

We have a computerised race results system which gives us the results straight after the meet concludes. The results are published on our website and can be viewed at Results.

Club BBQ

The barbeque will again be operating tomorrow night from 6.45pm, with the complimentary champagne, beer and wine again available to all parents and support crew. Remember that brothers and sisters of the swimmers have free entry so they can enjoy all the facilities of the center, and have a delicious dinner, while the Race Squad battle out the point score placings!

Swimmer of the Year

With only tomorrow nights race meet to go, the battle for Swimmer of the Year is very close, and will be decided by the racing tomorrow. Remember that this award is determined by how many points each swimmer earns during the race meetings held throughout the year., and this is determined by the times achieved at each meet. You don’t have to win to set a PB !
For a PB 4 points are awarded, 3 points for being very close to a PB, 2 points for being within 1 second of a PB and if no points are earned through the times, 1 point is awarded for every event entered. We have a computerised race results system which gives us the results straight after the meet concludes and are published on our website.

Following the clubs SC Championships, for both the girls and the boys the progressive points score for the top 12 swimmers is :
Samantha Marshall – 122 points; Claudia Manzo – 118 points, Claire Raper – 103 points; Caitlin Miller - 87 points; Emma Radford – 85 points; Doris Kong – 82 points; Eleanor Raper - 80 points; Phoebe Davies – 70 points ; Hannah Birchall – 68 points; Caroline Oyada – 58 points ; Phoebe Birchall - 51 points; Maya Gasiorek - 50 points.
