Take note

Note that the meet on Friday, December 9th will be the last for (calendar) 2005, with club racing resuming on Friday 3rd OF February 2006.

Also note that the NSW Metropolitan Championships have been deferred from the traditional December date to early March next year due to the Commonwealth Games.

Lane Cove SC Invitational Meet

We took 12 swimmers from our swim club to race in the Lane Cove Spring Invitational meet on October 31. It was more like a winter meet, being cold, rainy and windy, with the races held in an outside pool, using very slippery concrete starting blocks. However it was beautifully organised and everyone enjoyed it.

At this Long Course meet, the first of the planned external meets and despite the miserable and difficult conditions, our swimmers did us proud. With a lot of support from their team mates and parents, they achieved 20 PB's and won 9 medals. This was a fantastic effort. PB's were achieved by James Messenger (2), Sammy Annear, Tom Mahony (2), James Ekins (2), Oliver Schaffer (3, one by an incredible 15 seconds in the 400m freestyle), Luke Aldous, Doris Kong (2), Samantha Marshall (2), Emma Radford (in all 3 races she competed in !), Phoebe Davies, and Popy Aldous.

Samantha Marshall won 2 gold medals (50m and 100m breastroke), a silver medal (50m butterfly) and a bronze (50m freestyle). Bronze medals were won by Tom Mahony, Luke Aldous, Mia Portelli, Doris Kong and Emma Radford. Well done everybody - a great performance, particularly bearing in mind that 11 of the 12 racers swam PB's despite the difficult conditions.

Special thanks to Head Coach, Steve Garner, for helping and motivating the swimmers during a long, wet day ! The full results can be viewed on the website or by by clicking here.

Congratulations to James Messenger - Gold Medallist at SOPAC !

Last week James participated in the D Sport "World of Possibilities Festival" at SOPAC Homebush. He swam in 3 events and got 2 fourths and won the gold medal in the 50 metre breastroke - what a great performance !

28 October 2005 Swimmers of the Meet

Congratulations to Popy Aldous, Kelsey Gerbec and Miriam Carr who all scored a perfect 12 points by getting 3 PB's each. We had to average the size of the PB's for each swimmer to come up with one winner and that was Kelsey Gerbec with a whopping 17% decrease in her times from the previous swims.

It was even harder in the boys with William Bartlett, Aidan Brown, Sammy Annear, Patrick Carr and Luke Aldous all scoring a perfect 12 as well. It again came down to the best percentage decrease in times which went to Aidan Brown with an impressive 14% of PB's. Each swimmer earned valuable points towards the current seasons "Swimmer of the Year" award - well done ! Check out the scores to date on the web or by clicking here.

Fees due

Membership fees for 2005/06 are now overdue and swimmers need to join or renew to swim at the next meet on Friday, 25 November. There are very serious insurance issues if a swimmer races in our club without being financial. Accordingly we have to insist that each swimmer is paid up before being allowed to compete. Go to the website at www.cpswimclub.info to download the application form from the fees page. Failing that see Nish - the man behind the desk at race nights.

Club BBQ

The barbeque will again be operating on Friday nights from 6.45pm, with the complimentary champagne, beer and wine again available to all parents and support crew. Remember that brothers and sisters of the swimmers have free entry so they can enjoy all the facilities of the center, and have a delicious dinner, while the Race Squad battle out the point score placings!

Gym Membership

A reminder that the center has a very modern, fully equipped gym, and they have agreed that exclusively for our club there is now a 25% discount on ANY gym membership for Swim Club members' immediate family.

Computerised results

We have a computerised race system which gives us all of the results straight after the meet concludes. These and other results are published on our website and can be viewed at Results.
