BI-WEEKLY UPDATE
REMEMBER THAT OUR NEXT RACE MEETING IS ON TOMORROW NIGHT, FRIDAY AUGUST 18, AT 6.30 SHARP
The excellent results achieved by our swimmers over the last few months continued at our last race meet on August 5th. In fact the results are moving beyond spectacular with three club records broken, and a new club record of Personal Bests at one race meet was broken for the fourth race meet in a row ! It fact the "PB" record was not broken, it was shattered ! Another superb night of racing, and the tussle for "Swimmer of the Year" is getting very exciting.

Don't forget that the long course season starts in October and that the first of the currently scheduled external race carnivals is also on in October. Importantly, the school swimming season starts next term so remind all the others at school that joining our swim club is a great way to have fun, make new friends, and to start getting prepared for the school swim team.
RRace Meeting on August 5 - a record 32 PB's achieved and another 3 Club records broken !

The hard work shown by our club racers was again highlighted, with 32 PB's achieved. This number of PB's shattered the previous club record of 23 set only a fortnight before.

Emma Radford continued her scintilating form with a new club record in the 50 meter SC Butterfly and Ollie Schaeffer set a new mark in the mens event. Samantha Marshall broke the club record for the 50 metre short course breaststroke while in winning the 50 meter backstroke an astonishing 7 girls broke their PB's chasing Sam home.

Congratulations to the following swimmers who set personal bests: Nicholas Schaeffer (2), James Ekins (3) (this 6 year old bettered his previous best in the 25 meter butterfly and the 25 meter breastroke by an incredible 15 seconds and 25 seconds respectively!), Eleanor Raper (2), Caroline Oyada (2), Tom Mahony (2), Aiden Brown, Phoebe Birchall (2), Jim Lundie, Samantha Marshall, Jim Lundie, Emma Radford (2), Caitlin Miller, Hannah Birchall (2), Sammy Annear, Santiago Gonzalez, Claudia Manzo, Claire Raper, Maya Gasiorek, Doris Kong (2), Hugh Raper, Lachlan Raper and Oliver Schaeffer.

Swimmer of the Meet for boys was James Ekins (with a club record of 15 points for the one race meet) while Emma Radford took it out again for the girls. Remember that this award is determined by how many points each swimmer earns during the meet, and they all count for the clubs “Swimmer of the Year”. For a PB - 4 points are awarded, 3 points for being very close to a PB, 2 points for being within 1 second of a PB and 1 point is awarded for every event entered (up to a maximum of 4). We now also have a computerised race results system which gives us the results straight after the meet concludes. The results are published on our website and can be viewed at Results.

SWIM CLUB REMEMBERS FATHERS DAY ! (Club Championships night re-scheduled)

It was intended that the the Club Short Course Championships be held on the Sunday the 4th of September. However a 12 year old daughter reminded one of the commitee members that this was Fathers Day and it seemed sensible to re-schedule it . Accordingly it has been moved to Friday evening, the 2nd of September and a program will be issued shortly. This meet will determine, for example, who the Club’s 50 meter freestyle champion is etc. as distinct from the "Swimmer of the Year" which goes to the swimmer who has earned the most points during the whole year.

Club BBQ

The barbeque will again be operating tomorrow night from 6.45pm, with the complimentary champagne, beer and wine again available to all parents and support crew. Remember that brothers and sisters of the swimmers have free entry so they can enjoy all the facilities of the centre, and have a delicious dinner, while the Race Squad set yet more club records!

A special thanks to Christine Radford who was an enormous help last week.

The race for Swimmer of the Year is getting very exciting with all the recent PB's making for some serious moves on the scoreboard.
