The first race night is back
on this Friday 22 July at 6:15pm and will continue on every second Friday.
Club Championships are on 4 September,
the long course season starts in October and our racers will be competing
in the first of the external race carnivals in October as well!
Last Race Meeting on June 24th - a record
22 PB's achieved!
The increasing depth and talent of our club was again highlighted, with
22 PB's achieved. This number of PB's smashed the previous club record
of 18 set only a fortnight before. This is a great result, and very
encouraging for our clubs increasing competiveness.
Congratulations to the following swimmers who set personal bests: Sammy
Annear, Camilla Blome, Phoebe Davies
(2 - one by an amazing 6 seconds!), Santiago Gonzalez,
Jim Lundie (2), Claudia Manzo (by
4 seconds!), Caitlen Miller, Mathew Miller
(also by an amazing 6 seconds), Samantha Marshall (2),
Ivor Metcalf (3), Claire Raper, Eleanor
Raper (by 2 seconds), Hugh Raper, Lachlan
Raper, and William Vineberg. We must find
out what the Raper family eats for breakfast!
Swimmer of the Meet for boys was Ivor Metcalf, and
Samantha Marshall and Eleanor Raper
shared the award for the girls. Remember that this award is determined
by how many points each swimmer earns during the meet, and they all
count for the clubs “Swimmer of the Year”. For a PB - 4
points are awarded, 3 points for being very close to a PB, 2 points
for being within 1 second of a PB and 1 point is awarded for every event
entered (up to a maximum of 4).
We now also have a computerised race results system which gives us the
results straight after the meet concludes. The results are published
on our website and can be viewed at Results.
Club Championships
The Club Short Course Championships will be held on
the 4th of September. This meet will determine, for example, who the
Club’s 50 meter freestyle champion is etc.

Tips from a 'Racing Mum'
“A body’s temperature
drops quickly when the head is exposed to cold air or water. A rapid drop
in body temperature weakens the immune system and that’s when kids
get sick, not because of their being cold. For this reason winter racing
requires caps in the water and beanies out of the water to minimize this
temperature fluctuation”.
Race Night Arrangements
On arrival, please register at the Registration Desk on the left hand
side of the deep end of the pool. Registration by 6.20 will ensure that
the swimmer will be in the races, and will also help to start the races
on time at 6.30pm. Please remember that all competitors need to be warmed
up and out of the pool by 6.15 and ready to race by 6.30.
If we can get enough volunteer timekeepers to help out we can expect the
racing to be finished by 7.45.
That means more time to get into the complimentary
champagne, beer and wine and to enjoy the excellent barbeque. Remember
that brothers and sisters of the swimmers have free entry so they can
enjoy all the facilities of the centre, and have a delicious dinner, while
the Race Squad set yet more new PB's !.
Note from the coach:
Congratulations to all those
swimmers who participated in our swimathon recently. It was marvelous
to see people enjoy their own success and it was also a satisfying result
for the club both financially and in achieving our goal of swimming a
combined 70K. The president ( Jarek ) set the bar at 70K and you guys
swam a total of 136k. Outstanding!!!! Especially as it was school holidays,
which meant that a number of willing juniors were unable to attend. It
certainly augers well for the future. Stephen Hunt completed his 20k 'training'
swim and special mention should go to Martin (C & P instructor) -
15k; Oliver - 10k; Shimon - 10k; Alexis - 7k; Justin - 6.5k; Michelle
- 5.5k; Jarek - 5.3k; John Ross; Doris - 3k; Maya - 3 k; Joy - 3k. Steve
Garner - Head Coach. See website soon for complete list of participants.
Note from President:
Well done all and sundry! I
completely agree with the coach's remarks and I would also like to express
my gratitude and appreciation of the effort and support of the Cook and
Phillip Park management and staff. These people went out of their way
to help us in this swimathon. Thank you - John Konrads, Brenton Booth
for making the pool available - Tracey Ayton and the swim school staff
for their support and promotional efforts - the swim instructors and lifeguards,
who participated in the event. The swimming club is building each term
and your support is recognised by our committee and members. We are all
making a great team effort. Thank you and we look forward to future events.
Jarek Gasierek - Club President.
