SWIMCLUB UPDATE

Race Night is happening again on Friday,
June 16!

Why not bring a friend?

Our next club race night, and the first of our Monthly Championships in the winter series, is on next week. We will have a Monthly Championship up to and including September. The June Championship will be held on the 16th followed by Monthly Championships on July 21st, August 18th and September 22nd

We have been invited by the Eastern Suburbs Swimming Association to participate in their development squad being held in the second week of the July school holidays from 10 July to 13 July (Monday to Thursday) at Cranbrook School starting at 8am through to 10am. Each club in the district has been invited to provide 10 swimmers from the ages of 9 through to 12 years. A condition of the swimmers attending the camp is that they must compete at the Aquadot carnival on Saturday the 15th July at the Olympic Aquatic Centre at Homebush. This is the first time our club has been included in this camp, and it is a very exciting opportunity for our younger swimmers. We will send 10 swimmers to this camp and Martin will assist with the coaching. Please respond by return to this email if you would like to be considered for inclusion in this excellent program

The first of the external meets was held on Sunday, 28th of May at Maroubra and a small squad of our senior swimmers went to the Toongabbie Clubs race meet at Olympic Park last Sunday. Results are set out below. The next external carnival is on at Windsor on Sunday 18th of June - entries close tomorrow (Thursday June 8) so please reply by return to this email if you would like to be included in the Cook &Phillip race team that is going. Good luck to all the competitors, and don't forget to wear your club T-shirt !

Results from Club Race Night May 19

The club had a successful race night on Friday, May 19, with a couple of stand-out performances. We were also delighted to welcome Ewan and his squad from the swim school. Caroline Oayda swam 2 PB's, one being over 5 seconds in the 50m butterfly, which is a terrific performance. Aiden Brown also swam 2 PB's, and thus both he and Caroline made significant moves up the points score table for the Swimmer of the Year competition. They both gained 9 points for their efforts and are thus the male and female swimmer (respectively) of the meet - well done and congratulations!

Maroubra Development Meet - May 28

Cook &Phillip Swim Club sent a squad out to Maroubra for this annual event, and they performed well. Particularly noteworthy were PB's set by each of Tom Mahony, Sam Annear and Aiden Brown in the 50m butterfly - well done boys !

The complete results can also be found on the host clubs website www.mbra.org.au along with the photos they took on the day.

Toongabbie Club Carnival at SOPAC

On Sunday the 4th of June two of the clubs senior swimmers went out to this annual carnival held at Olympic Park at Homebush. It is one of the largest race meets of the year (it went for over 10 hours, with up to 6 heats per event !) and as it is one of the last chances to qualify for the Sydney Metropolitan Championships (held at Olympic Park on July 1st and 2nd) it is extremely competitive.

Particular congratulations to Samantha Marshall who won the gold medal in the 50 metre breastroke with a PB of 35.39 seconds. She also swam a PB in the 100 metre freestyle and thus also qualified for this event in the upcoming Metropolitan Championships - well done !

Other Race Results

One of our senior swimmers, James Messenger, has just returned from Blayney, NSW where he competed in the Central West Region Swim Meet. He got through to the EAD finals in 2 events, and then won a silver medal in the 100 metre breastroke final and and a bronze medal in the 100 meter freestyle - well done James - a huge effort !

Club BBQ

The barbeque will again be operating on Friday nights from 6.45pm, with the complimentary champagne, beer and wine again available to all parents and support crew. Remember that brothers and sisters of the swimmers have free entry so they can enjoy all the facilities of the centre, and have a delicious dinner, while the Race Squad battle out the point score placings!

Swimmer of the Year

The competition for Swimmer of the Year is based on each swimmers performances throughout the year at club race nights, with a PB counting for 4 points, a near PB for 3, being within 1 second is worth 2 points and for each race entered 1 point is earned. Good luck to all the swimmers tonight - with the next race night a month after the June 16 meet, that is is an important opportunity for the racers to stake their claim to the title The current standings are as follows (noting that the complete list is on our web site) :

Winter holiday camps

Please support our friends at Cool Camps for Kids. They are conducting two ball sports camps during the June/July holidays and more details can be found at www.coolcamps.com.au

Gym Membership

A reminder that the centre has a very modern, fully equipped gym, and they have agreed that exclusively for our club there is now a 25% discount on ANY gym membership for Swim Club members' immediate family.

Computerised results

We have a computerised race system which gives us all of the results straight after the meet concludes. These and other results are published on our website and can be viewed at Results.

Membership fees for 2005/06 are now overdue and swimmers need to join or renew to swim at the next meet . There are very serious insurance issues if a swimmer races in our club without being financial. Accordingly we have to insist that each swimmer is paid up before being allowed to compete. Go to the website at www.cpswimclub.info to download the application form from the fees page. Failing that see Nish - the man behind the desk at race nights.
