SWIMCLUB UPDATE

First Race Night for 2006 is on tomorrow night !

Why not bring a friend?

Our first club race night for 2006 is on tomorrow (Friday, 10th) with racing starting at 6.30pm. The calendar for the next few months is extremely busy, with the first of the external carnivals for the clubs stronger swimmers on this Sunday at Sutherland. There are also 2 other meets coming up this month, apart from all the school carnivals. We will be taking final entries tomorrow night for the Speedo Sprint Series which has the heats on Friday evening February 17th (only a week and one day away !). In addition entries for Epping carnival need to be lodged tomorrow night. Full details of the forthcoming meets are in this newsletter.

For tomorrow night please try and make sure you get to the centre by 6.15pm to warm up and to finish registration by 6.25pm. As always, the BBQ will be operating for hungry swimmers and their families and there will also be free beer and wine for the parents. Any donations of beer and wine will be greatly appreciated.

Eastern Suburbs Swimming Association

After a lot of work by the club committee, we are really pleased to report that we have just been accepted by ESSA as a member club. Joining ESSA is not easy (a number of other clubs have been trying to do so for years) and this move should really benefit the club.

Other clubs in ESSA include Cranbrook Eastern Edge, Kambala, Maroubra and Moriah. We will now be able to participate in the various activities and carnivals organised by the very active group that run ESSA. We have already received our first invitation, which is to the ESSA junior championships in March - details will be in the next newsletter.

SUMMER RACING PROGRAM

Our swim club is sending a team to the following swim meets, to both hone those racing skills and to set qualifying times for the upcoming Metropolitan and National Age Championships. They are also perfect for getting ready for the school swim carnivals most of which are held over the next few months. Please speak to Steve Garner (phone : 0416.243.656)or email Nish at secretary@cpswimclub.info (or phone : 0412.235.622) if you would like to be considered for inclusion in the squad. Representing our club at these external meets is organised by our head coach, Steve Garner, who will assess each swimmers fitness, skills level and attitude at training before including anyone in the club race team. You must be a paid up member of the club to be eligible to swim (see below)

Speedo Sprint Series

The heats are on Friday evening, 17th February at Canterbury Pool with the finals at Sydney Olympic Park on Sunday March 12. Entries close on February 10th. However please let Steve or Nish know ASAP if you want to be considered for inclusion in the team the club is sending. Note that this event is restricted to swimmers aged 13 and under. This is a state wide competition and is a lot of fun. Entries have to go through the club and you must be a registered, paid-up member.

Eastwood Epping Open Carnival

Sunday 26th February, starting at 9.00am. Entries close on February 12. This is perfect for tuning up for the school carnivals and for working on qualifying for the Metropolitan Championships.

Fees due

Membership fees for 2005/06 are now overdue and swimmers need to join or renew to swim at the next meet on Friday, 3 February. There are very serious insurance issues if a swimmer races in our club without being financial. Accordingly we have to insist that each swimmer is paid up before being allowed to compete. Go to the website at www.cpswimclub.info to download the application form from the fees page. Failing that see Nish - the man behind the desk at race nights.

Club BBQ

The barbeque will again be operating on Friday nights from 6.45pm, with the complimentary champagne, beer and wine again available to all parents and support crew. Remember that brothers and sisters of the swimmers have free entry so they can enjoy all the facilities of the centre, and have a delicious dinner, while the Race Squad battle out the point score placings!

Gym Membership

A reminder that the centre has a very modern, fully equipped gym, and they have agreed that exclusively for our club there is now a 25% discount on ANY gym membership for Swim Club members' immediate family.

Computerised results

We have a computerised race system which gives us all of the results straight after the meet concludes. These and other results are published on our website and can be viewed at Results.
