SWIMCLUB UPDATE

Race Night is on tomorrow night !

Why not bring a friend?

Our next club race night and the last long course for this season is on tomorrow night, March 24, with racing starting at 6.30pm. It is the last club race night before the swim clubs Long Course Championships that are being held at 3 pm on Sunday April 2 (see below) and is thus a perfect opportunity to get match fit and also to hone those racing skills!

For tomorrow night please try and make sure you get to the centre by 6.15pm to warm up and to finish registration by 6.25pm. As always, the BBQ will be operating for hungry swimmers and their families and there will also be free beer and wine for the parents. Any donations of beer and wine will be greatly appreciated.

Eastern Suburbs Junior Championships

The swim club was represented by a small group of swimmers at this carnival that was held on March 18 and some fantastic PB's were recorded.

Congratulations to the following who represented their club with real distinction at our first Eastern Suburbs Junior Championship

Sammy Annear - who recorded 3 PB's out the 4 races he entered, including an extraordinary 25 second improvement in the 50 metre butterfly - the coaching from head coach Steve Garner is really starting to show !

Aiden Brown - who recorded 4 PB's in the four races he contested - once again some remarkable times - for example, a 9 second PB in the 50m breastroke and 10 seconds in the 50 metre backstroke

Tom Mahony - who also recorded 4 PB's in the four races he contested including a 5 seconds improvement in the 50m butterfly

All these fine results were achieved by swimmers who have trained hard in Steve Garners' junior squads - the lesson is clear - train hard and practice your racing and the improvements can be dramatic !

Results from Club Race Night March 10

The whole ethos of our swim club is that achieving a PB in competition and continuing to improve is just as important to our young swimmers as actually winning a race. The success of our swimmers at the last club meet shows just how dramatically our swimmers are improving their performances, while learning how to race and enjoying it at the same time.

On March 10 our swimmers broke 43 PB's, which is a wonderful result, so huge congratulations to the following athletes who achieved PB's :

Eliza McCristal (2), Emily Moss (3), Aiden Brown (2), Robert Murphy (3), Harry Moss (3), James Ekins , Jack Gerbec, Beatrice Hosie (2), Maddisen Gazal (3), Oliver Schaffer, Sammy Annear (4), James Vineburg (2), Popy Aldous (2), Mikayla Gerbec (2), Michael Murphy, Luca Ekins, Luke Aldous, Ali Gazal (2), Jessica Gazal, and Tom Mahony

Swimmer of the Year

The competition for Swimmer of the Year is based on each swimmers performances throughout the year at club race nights, with a PB counting for 4 points, a near PB for 3, being within 1 second is worth 2 points and for each race entered 1 point is earned. The competition remains wide open and with 3 best races at the Long Course Championships (on April 2) counting for double points it will be fast and furious over the next 10 days !

There have been a number of major moves over the last month, and a lot of new faces on the "Top 10" list. Point score (for the top 10) following our last club race night on March 10 is as follows :

Membership fees for 2005/06 are now overdue and swimmers need to join or renew to swim at the next meet . There are very serious insurance issues if a swimmer races in our club without being financial. Accordingly we have to insist that each swimmer is paid up before being allowed to compete. Go to the website at www.cpswimclub.info to download the application form from the fees page. Failing that see Nish - the man behind the desk at race nights.

Club BBQ

The barbeque will again be operating on Friday nights from 6.45pm, with the complimentary champagne, beer and wine again available to all parents and support crew. Remember that brothers and sisters of the swimmers have free entry so they can enjoy all the facilities of the centre, and have a delicious dinner, while the Race Squad battle out the point score placings!

Gym Membership

A reminder that the centre has a very modern, fully equipped gym, and they have agreed that exclusively for our club there is now a 25% discount on ANY gym membership for Swim Club members' immediate family.

Computerised results

We have a computerised race system which gives us all of the results straight after the meet concludes. These and other results are published on our website and can be viewed at Results.
