COOK +PHILLIP SWIM CLUB

See you this Friday at the Club's race night!

This Friday we are back into club racing. The 2006/2007 short course season continues this Friday, August 10. It will start at at 6.30pm. Please try and be there by 6.00pm so that we can get all the entries put into the computer in time for a 6.30 start - it will also give some time for the swimmers to do a bit of a warm up.

The trip to Tasmania is getting closer - at this stage we have 14 confirmed swimmers in the Tasmanian State Championships which are being held in Hobart from Saturday September 8 to Monday the 10th (which is a public holiday in NSW). We expect to get the first of the swim gear within a week and we will distribute it as soon as it arrives. If you have not yet entered, and are interested (or just want to make enquiries) let us know as soon as possible - contact Head Coach Steve Garner at the pool or David Marshall on 0416.178.547

Over the last 3 weeks our swimmers have achieved some fantastic results at external meets - details below. We now need to finalise entries for the last of the Sydney meets (at Warringah on Sunday August 26). Entries close this week so we need to get them to Steve ASAP ! It is essential that all swimmers going to Tasmania get some racing practice at Warringah.

Another reminder - could all parents who get this newsletter please print it out and give it to any of their children who are members of the club. An awful lot of our racers never get to see this newsletter and that can only be described as unfortunate! It really is important that they get the feedback and information contained here, so, to the printer!

Tasmanian State Championships

As many of you may know, our club is sending a squad of (mainly younger) swimmers to the Tasmanian State Short Course Championships. So far we have 14 confirmed starters. These Championships are being held from Saturday September 8 to Monday the 10th inclusive. It will be a fantastic weekend for parents and swimmers alike - a seriously valuable experience and major motivation for the swimmers and it should be a lot of fun for the parents.

Please think seriously about joining the rest of the team in coming to Tasmania - entry times are not onerous and the flights are not expensive when booked well in advance. To discuss or confirm (swimmers) availability, ring Head Coach Steve Garner on 0416.243.656.

Race Night on 20 July 2007

There were 20 PB's achieved at our last race night, which is a fantastic performance, particularly when you note the size of some of the improvements. Congratulations to Aiden Brown, Sammy Annear (9 seconds in the 200m IM), Mia Mahony (9 seconds in the 100m IM), Scarlet Clark (9 seconds in the 50 IM), Lucy Vineberg (2 one of 15 seconds), Tom Badger (2), Tui Ryder-Nuku (8 seconds in the 100m IM), Sam Marshall (2), Mia Elnekave (3, including a whopping 33 seconds in the 200m IM), William Vineberg, Will Badger (2, including 5 seconds in the 50m IM), and Tom Mahony (12 seconds in the 200m IM).

Club BBQ

The barbeque will again be operating on Friday nights from 6.45pm, with the complimentary champagne, beer and wine again available to all parents and support crew. Remember that brothers and sisters of the swimmers have free entry so they can enjoy all the facilities of the centre, and have a delicious dinner, while the Race Squad battle out the point score placings!

Blacktown Carnival on Sunday July 29

Our squad was significantly reduced due to injury, but the remainder did really well. Samantha Marshall claimed 4 gold medals and Mia Elnekave (Portelli) swam 2 PB's which was a fantastic result as it was her first big (non ESSA)carnival.

NSW Stare Open Championships

Last weekend Samantha Marshall represented the club, as a 14 year old, in the state's Open Championships. She swam in 5 races, and achieved 5 PB's. She also won 2 bronze medals (each time being beaten by current Olympian, Sally Foster). Well done Sam, and great work Head Coach, Steve Garner !

Swimmer of the Month - July 07

Congratulations to
Mia Elnekave/Portelli!

With all these PB's being broken, winning the club's "Swimmer of the Month" is a big ask, and a huge achievement. Mia has a new name (Elnekave) and a new speed (FAST!). She and Tom Badger both scored 12 points in July but on a count back Mia had an exceptional improvement to her times and thus she wins the title. Well done Mia! Swimmer of the Month July 2007.
