| See you this Friday at the Club's race night! This Friday we are back into club racing.
The 2007/2008 long course season continues with our club race night
on Friday and after the brilliant results from our swimmers over the
last two weeks, it should be fast and furious ! At the Interdistict
meet last weekend our team won 7 gold,
1 Silver and 4 Bronzes which is far and away our best
result ever. See below for all the details. The trip to Tasmania was a huge success and some excellent results were achieved - see below for the report. Another reminder - could all parents who get this newsletter please print it out and give it to any of their children who are members of the club. An awful lot of our racers never get to see this newsletter and that can only be described as unfortunate! It really is important that they get the feedback and information contained here, so, to the printer! |
| St George Inter - District meet - 10 Nov. This was our first invitation to this meet - as of early next year NSW Swimming has changed the district system, which means we are moving from the Eastern Suburbs Swimming Association to St George - it will make very little difference to our club, and has no impact on our club nights. This is quite a high level meet (inter-district as distinct from district) and our squad of 15 swimmers (our largest race squad for some time) did our club proud. With 7 Gold's, 1 Silver and 4 Bronze medals it was a wonderful result for our club. Add to that a total of 27 PB's and 5 very close 4ths and it was a spectacular day for our club which is one of the smallest in the region. Huge congratulations to : Gold Medals Ethan Baker ; Jasper Goodall (2) ; Petra Goodall ;Emily Kass ;Jacqui McGuirk and Matt Small Silver Medal Petra Goodall Bronze Medals Cameron Harkins (2); Emily Kass ; Matt Small Personal Bests Sammy Annear ((3, including 3 seconds in the 50m breastroke), Ethan Baker, Isabella Blumenthal (3, with a combined total of almost 28 seconds, which is extraordinary), Jasper Goodall (3 ), Petra Goodall (2), Cameron Harkins (3, including over 5 seconds in the 50m breastroke), Jade Jowett-Crociani (3, one of over 6 seconds in the 50m breastroke), Emily Kass (2), Doris Kong (3, including a whopper of over 13 seconds in the 200m IM), Daniel Leech (2), and Cecile Vadas (2). This was an outstanding achievement and head coach Steve Garner and assistant coach Fi Tyler were ecstatic at the effort, and the improvement in times right across the board. Well done team ! FINA World Cup The club had its first ever representative at this level in the Sydney leg of the World Cup held two weeks ago. Samantha Marshall swam in the FINA World Cup in the 50m and 200m breastroke (she had to pull out of the 100m on Friday as she had her school exams on). She qualified for both finals, with a PB in the 50m (breaking the NSW Age record in the process). She was a little swamped in the 50m final but did really well in the 200m, coming 4th. She did a 3.5 second PB to do this, and only missed coming 3rd by 0.2 of a second to a World Championship silver medallist. Importantly she did the last 50m the fastest of any of the girls (including Leisel) and stormed home in the last 20m to beat Jade Edmiston (current world record holder in the 50m breastroke) into 5th. Another 2 or 3 metres and she might have got 2nd (according to the AIS coach). Sam turned 15 a few months ago. Her (short course) time of 2.25.26 two weeks ago broke the 15 years NSW All Comers age record by over 10 seconds and also broke the NSW Open record (that was set in 1996) by almost a second. She is now ranked 5th in Australia for the 100m short course breastroke and 4th in the 200m. Well done Sam, and particular congratulations to head coach Steve Garner who has self evidently done a wonderful job in developing Sam as a swimmer over the last two years. |
SOPAC Qualifying Carnival on October 20 The club had a squad of 13 representatives for this important qualifying carnival held at Homebush.
