| A huge weekend is just around the corner!! The next club race night is on this Friday, March 23 at 6.30pm and on Saturday march 24 it’s the ESSA Junior Champs. The 2006/2007 long course season continues with the 4th of this years club race nights on this Friday, March the 23rd. It will start at at 6.30pm. Please try and be there by 6.00pm so that we can get all the entries put into the computer in time for a 6.30 start - it will also give some time for the swimmers to do a bit of a warm up. There promises to be great racing this weekend if the excellent form from the last race night continues. Two weeks ago our swimmers achieved another 22 PB's which is a great effort. A full report is set out below. In addition there will be the famous "Dash for Cash" race at the end of the night. The Eastern Suburbs Swimming Association (ESSA) meet, which is our district's Junior Championship, will be held on Saturday March 24 at 12.00 noon at the Des Renford Aquatic Centre, Maroubra. We have a record 20 swimmers competing, so good luck to them all. We have to co-host this meeting so expect a tap on the shoulder from your friendly committee to pitch in on the day ! Another reminder - could all
parents who get this newsletter please print it out and give it to any
of their children who are members of the club. An awful lot of
our racers never get to see this newsletter and that can only be described
as unfortunate! It really is important that they get the feedback and
information contained here, so, to the printer! |
See you tomorrow night,
March the 23rd! |
| ESSA Junior Championships The club has its biggest team ever representing the club at the district's Junior Championship to be held this weekend. We belong to the Eastern Suburbs Swimming Association and this is a big, annual carnival. It will be on Saturday March 24 at 12.00 noon at the Des Renford Aquatic Centre, Maroubra. We have 20 of our younger swimmers competing, and judging by their performances at recent club race nights, they should , as they say, really make a splash ! Congratulations and best of luck to the following swimmers who have been chosen to represent their club : Poppy Aldous, Harry and Maya Anderson, Sammy Annear, Tom Badger, Isabella Blumenthal, Aiden and Aiden Brown, Scarlet Clark, Mitch and Riley Evans, Alessandra, Jessica and Maddisen Gazal, Cameron Harkins, Jade Jowett-Crociani, Mia and Tom Mahony, Mia Portelli, Tai Ryder-Nuku and James Vineberg. External Race Meets Over the next few weeks, and after all the school carnivals finish, head coach Steve Garner will be drawing up the club racing program for the the next few months. This will include the ESSA meet to be held this Saturday. Entries have now closed for this event however please contact Steve asap if you would like to be considered for selection in the Club's team for subsequent race meets. Club BBQ The barbeque will again be operating on Friday nights from 6.45pm, with the complimentary champagne, beer and wine again available to all parents and support crew. Remember that brothers and sisters of the swimmers have free entry so they can enjoy all the facilities of the centre, and have a delicious dinner, while the Race Squad battle out the point score placings! Gym Membership Computerised
results Membership fees Membership fees for 2006/07 are now well overdue and swimmers who are not financial need to join or renew to swim this Friday or in this weekend's Speedo series. This is particularly the case for the swimmers participating at the Speedo Sprint series this weekend as it is an external meet. There are very serious insurance issues if a swimmer races in our club without being financial. $50 is club membership for the full year to September 30, of which $26 goes to Swimming Aust for insurance and registration. If a swimmer has a mishap while competing or training for the club, and is not a financial member of the club then that swimmer is uninsured. It is in everyone's interests that the membership dues are paid. Accordingly we have to insist that each swimmer is paid up before being allowed to compete. Go to the website at www.cpswimclub.info to download the application form from the fees page. Failing that see Nish - the man behind the desk at race nights. |
SWIMMER OF THE MONTH FOR FEBRUARY Congratulations to Sammy Annear! With all these PB's being broken, winning the club's "Swimmer of the Month" is a big ask, and a huge achievement. Sammy Annear scored a perfect 12 points at both February meets which was a fantastic effort. He also followed up in the first of the March meets with another perfect 12. Well done Sammy! You are the Club's Swimmer of the Month for February 2007 Results from Race Night on March 9 On the 23rd of February, our swimmers achieved 22 PB's and they continued their good form on the 9th with 22 additional PB's. Our whole club is based not upon just winning, but on each and every swimmer improving and challenging themselves by reaching new heights. An indication of the quality of our swimmers, and how fast they are improving, was demonstrated in the club's 100 metre boys backstroke race. Four swimmers did PB's, but they were not just ordinary PB's. Tom Mahoney won with a 6 second PB, Sammy Annear came third with a 10 second PB, Aiden Brown came 4th with an 8 second PB and Will Vineberg came in 5th with an 8 second PB. Its a bit tough not winning when you do a 10 second PB ! Amazing stuff ! Congratulations to the following swimmers who achieved a PB on the 9th : Tom Mahony (2) ; William Vineberg ; James Vineberg ; Riley Evans (2) ; Natasha Clark ; Tom Badger ; Oliver Bedford ; Tui Ryder-Nuku ; Taneeka Johnston (2) ; Ethan Blumenthal ; Scarlet Clark ; Jessica Gazal ; Maddisen Gazal ; Sammy Annear (3) ; Mitch Evans ; and Aiden Brown (2). Swimmer of the Year The competition for Swimmer of the Year is based on each swimmers performances throughout the year at club race nights, with a PB counting for 4 points, a near PB for 3, being within 1 second is worth 2 points and for each race entered 1 point is earned. There has been a lot of movement on the table. However Sammy Annear again got a perfect score (ie 3 PB's) to consolidate his first place amongst the boys and following the race night on the 9th, the current "Top 5" standings are as follows: BOYS: Sammy Annear 50 ; Tui Ryder-Nuku 38 ; Tom Mahony 37 ; Mitch Evans 36 and Jack Evans 33. Aiden Brown and Will Vineberg are now just outside the top 5. In the girls Taneeka has narrowed the gap but Scarlet still holds on to first place. GIRLS: Scarlet Clark 44 : Taneeka Johnston 39 : Lucy Vineberg 27 : Maddisen Gazal 25 and Mia Mahony on 21. Note that the complete list is on our web site.
