COOK +PHILLIP SWIM CLUB

The next club race night is on this Friday, April 27 at 6.30pm

Hopefully everyone had a fun and relaxing Easter. This Friday we are back into club racing. The 2006/2007 long course season continues with the 5th of this years club race nights on this Friday, April 27th. It will start at at 6.30pm. Please try and be there by 6.00pm so that we can get all the entries put into the computer in time for a 6.30 start - it will also give some time for the swimmers to do a bit of a warm up.

Our swimmers had fantastic results in the recent Eastern Suburbs Swimming Association (ESSA) meet, which is our district's Junior Championship. With 6 medals and 28 Personal bests achieved by our swimmers it was a memorable afternoon. A full report is set out below.

Congratulations also to club member Samantha Marshall who swam in the recent Australian National Age Championships in Perth. She won silver in the 100m 14 years breastroke, beaten by a junior Olympian, and beating into 3rd place a girl who won a gold medal (in world record time) in the medley relay at the recent World Championships. She also achieved 4th place in the 200 m. breastroke. Well done Sam, and to head coach, Steve Garner ! She was wearing the new club cap so maybe that helped !

Another reminder - could all parents who get this newsletter please print it out and give it to any of their children who are members of the club. An awful lot of our racers never get to see this newsletter and that can only be described as unfortunate! It really is important that they get the feedback and information contained here, so, to the printer!

See you tomorrow night, April the 27th!

ESSA Junior Championships

The club had its biggest ever team representing the club at the district's Junior Championship held on March 24. We belong to the Eastern Suburbs Swimming Association and this is a big, annual carnival. Our team had spectacular results, with 28 Personal Bests and winning 6 medals. This was a terrific performance, as we are one of the smallest clubs in the district. Most importantly, the volume of PB's achieved showed just how hard and how well our swimmers are training and competing.

The standout swimmer for our club was Tom Badger who won 2 silver medals and a bronze. He did a PB of 12 seconds in the 25m breastroke to get silver, and a 3 second PB in the 25m backstroke to get his second silver. A terrific effort. Another great effort was Jade Jowett-Crociani swimming a PB in the 50m backstroke to win a silver medal as well as a 4 second PB in the 50m breastroke.

Well done also to Tom Mahony who swam a PB to get bronze in the 50m free (as well as PB in the 50m breastroke) and to Dionne Brown who achieved a 6 second PB to claim bronze in the 25m breastroke. Dionne swam a further 2 PBs so she had an outstanding meet.

Another standout performer was Harry Anderson who swam a 13 second PB in the 25m breastroke and achieved another PB in the 25m freestyle. Another star was Mia Portelli who swam an amazing 5 PB's which really pleased the coach ! Not far behind her was Maya Anderson with a fantastic 3 PB.

Congratulations also to Sammy Annear (2), Aiden Brown, Cameron Harkins (2), Isabella Blumenthal, Tui Ryder-Nuku and Poppy Aldous who all swam PB's. Finally well done to the boys medley relay who finished 4th against the much bigger and stronger clubs.

This was a terrific effort and a superb result for the swimmers, the coaches and the club. Well done everyone !!

Club BBQ

The barbeque will again be operating on Friday nights from 6.45pm, with the complimentary champagne, beer and wine again available to all parents and support crew. Remember that brothers and sisters of the swimmers have free entry so they can enjoy all the facilities of the centre, and have a delicious dinner, while the Race Squad battle out the point score placings!

Gym Membership

A reminder that the centre has a very modern, fully equipped gym, and they have agreed that exclusively for our club there is now a 25% discount on ANY gym membership for Swim Club members' immediate family.

Computerised results

We have a computerised race system which gives us all of the results straight after the meet concludes. These and other results are published on our website and can be viewed at Results.

SWIMMER OF THE MONTH FOR FEBRUARY MARCH

Congratulations to Sammy Annear!

Sammy Annear scored a perfect 12 points at both March meets which was a fantastic effort as he did the same thing in February as well. That's 4 race meets, 4 perfect scores. Well done Sammy! You are the Club's Swimmer of the Month for March 2007

Results from Race Night on March 23

On the 23rd of March, our swimmers achieved 15 PB's which was a great result as the fields were smaller than normal. Our whole club is based not upon just winning, but on each and every swimmer improving and challenging themselves by reaching new heights. The results from the ESSA carnival and the club race night illustrate just how well the club is going.

Congratulations to the following swimmers who achieved a PB on the 23rd :

Tom Mahony (3) ; Lucy Vineberg ; Will Badger ; Tom Badger ; Tui Ryder-Nuku : Michael Gertner (3) ; Scarlet Clark ; Sammy Annear (3) and Aiden Brown.

Swimmer of the Year

The competition for Swimmer of the Year is based on each swimmers performances throughout the year at club race nights, with a PB counting for 4 points, a near PB for 3, being within 1 second is worth 2 points and for each race entered 1 point is earned.

There has been a lot of movement on the table. However Sammy Annear again got a perfect score (ie 3 PB's) to consolidate his first place amongst the boys - however Tom Mahony is also a big mover on the table. Following the race night on the 23rd, the current "Top 5" standings are as follows:

BOYS: Sammy Annear 62 ; Tom Mahony 49 Tui Ryder-Nuku 45 ; Aiden Brown and Mitch Evans 36 with Jack Evans and James Vineberg are now just outside the top 5.

In the girls Scarlet still holds on to first place but Lucy Vineberg is the big mover.

GIRLS: Scarlet Clark 50 : Taneeka Johnston 39 : Lucy Vineberg 35 : Maddisen Gazal and Mia Mahony on 25.

Note that the complete list is on our web site.

Membership fees

Membership fees for 2006/07 are now well overdue and swimmers who are not financial need to join or renew to swim this Friday or in this weekend's Speedo series. This is particularly the case for the swimmers participating at the Speedo Sprint series this weekend as it is an external meet. There are very serious insurance issues if a swimmer races in our club without being financial.

$50 is club membership for the full year to September 30, of which $26 goes to Swimming Aust for insurance and registration. If a swimmer has a mishap while competing or training for the club, and is not a financial member of the club then that swimmer is uninsured. It is in everyone's interests that the membership dues are paid. Accordingly we have to insist that each swimmer is paid up before being allowed to compete. Go to the website at www.cpswimclub.info to download the application form from the fees page. Failing that see Nish - the man behind the desk at race nights.
