COOK +PHILLIP SWIM CLUB

The next race night is on Friday 2nd May

We are holding the clubs next monthly race night at the start of 2nd term on Friday May the 2nd commencing at 6.30pm. There will be a barbeque operating. Please try and be there shortly after 6.00pm so as to facilitate registration and to give some time for the warm up.

The club race night held last Friday (4th April )was very successful despite so many of the regular swimmers being unavailable due to rugby commitments. Results will be to hand shortly as they are still being entered into the computer.

Next External Race Meet

We will be sending a squad of 10 to the SwimWest short course qualifying meet being held at SOPAC on Sunday, April 20. This carnival is designed to enable swimmers to try and establish qualifying times for the major meets coming up in the middle of the year. Best of luck to Petra Goodall, Jasper Goodall, Jade Jowett-Crociani, Doris Kong, Georgia Longworth, Mia and Tom Mahony, Jacqui McGuirk, Cecile Vadas and Tui Ryder-Nuku

Note that these major forthcoming meets are the Metropolitan Championships starting on 28th June and the State Age Championships starting on August 8th . This SwimWest meet will also be excellent practice for the Tasmanian State Age Championships which we will be attending – see below. Shortly we will be circulating details of the other external meets the club will be attending in May and June.

Trip to Tasmania

We had an extremely successful trip to the Tasmanian Short Course State Championships last year and will be doing it again this year. They will be held from Saturday September 6th to Monday the 8th inclusive and you will need to fly into Hobart on the previous Friday. As with last year you will need to make your own travel arrangements (fly in Friday the 5th and fly out in the afternoon of the 8th ). We will try and arrange an attractive accommodation package for all attendees. The great thing about this meet (apart from the fun and competition) is that Swimming Tasmania have waived any entry times for our squad. Once again we will be organising all the club gear for the swimmers and their supporters. It is enormous fun for the whole family so put it in the diary ! More details shortly

Squad News

Please note that from 14th April through the school holidays and beyond the
Junior squad will revert to Monday, Wednesday, and Friday 5.30 (6.00)-
7.00am. The PM sessions will be Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday 4.00-5.30pm.

Head Coach Steve Garner writes :

Sam Marshall and I were at the Australian Olympic Trials last week. Samantha swam in 3 breastroke events, where she came 4th in the 200m, and 5th in both the 50m and 100m. She broke her own State records in the 200m and twice in the 100m. These times place her in the top 16 in the world so far this year. A brilliant effort for someone so young ( and also relatively young ), showing immense courage/ character “under fire”.

Obviously, Sam’s efforts brought a considerable amount of attention to our club. Not so obvious was the contribution of club and squad members. Many people emailed, texted and attended the Championships and gave Sam and myself a huge amount of support and encouragement. This contribution should not be underestimated. From the swimmer and the coach I thank you all. The positive energy and enthusiasm supported us in a very intense and heightened reality environment.
