| The next race night is on Friday November 7 The club race night on 17th October was a fantastic evening — we welcomed new members and the barbeque after racing was a great success. The Swimmer-of-the-Month trophy for September was won by Romane Molle… congratulations! One of the youngest swimmers in the club, Romaine won the trophy on count-back as three swimmers ended up with the same number of points for PBs. The next monthly race night will be Friday 7th November commencing at 6.30pm sharp. Please try and be there shortly after 6.00pm for registration and warm up. And for the diary, the subsequent club race night will be Friday 28th November. Club Race Night 19th September Another excellent race night with 31 PB’s achieved which managed to top the terrific result on August 22nd. The quality of the racing can be gauged from Event 3 (50m Breastroke) where 6 of the 8 swimmers set a PB ! Congratulations to Romane Molle (4), Olivia Piazza (2, and she is only 5 !), Lara Molle (4), Mia Mahony (3), Emily Moss (4), Aiden Brown (3), Cecile Vadas, Layla Williams (3), Alex Christopher, Tom Mahony, Xanthe Christopher (also only 5 years of age !), Leo Christopher, Alex Christopher, Sammy Annear, and Henry Palmerlee. With 3 swimmers getting the perfect score (ie 4 PB’s out of 4 races), it needed a count-back to work out the Swimmer of the Month. On that basis Emily Moss and Lara Molle were just pipped at the post by Romane Molle – well done the 6 year old ! Special mention to the pair of 10 year olds, Luca Godwin and Robbie Berzins who both broke the record in the 25 metre freestyle with Luca setting a new mark at 20.62 – congratulations ! Emily is showing rapid improvement – for example, taking 4 seconds off her 50m backstroke time. MLC Marlins Carnival on October 4th Nine swimmers represented our club at what is generally one of the more competitive meets early in the long course season. The squad performed really well, with 2 gold medals, 3 silver medals and 3 bronze medals along with 19 PB’s. Well done especially to Madison Kim who stepped up in class by winning 2 gold and 1 bronze, Congratulations also to Alex Christopher (silver medal, his first external medal), Daniel Leech a silver and a bronze, and a 7 second PB in the 100m backstroke – bring on the Metropolitan Championships !), Lara Molle also a silver and a bronze, and well done also to Cecile Vadas who keeps doing PB’s at these external meets – the training is paying off ! Australian Short Course Championships and FINA World Cup In late September Samantha Marshall competed at the Australian Short Course Championships in Melbourne. Swimming 5 PB’s, she came home with her first Open medals, being a silver in the 100 and a (very, very close ! ) bronze in the 200m breastroke. With only a 0.15 of a second 4th in the 50m it was a terrific carnival for both her and Head Coach, Steve Garner. In late October in the FINA World Cup in Sydney Samantha won a bronze in the 100m breastroke – unfortunately she took ill after qualifying for the finals of the 200m and 50m races and had to withdraw from the finals. |
